IEEE TCDE Rising Star Award

Recognition for early career database researchers by the IEEE Technical Committee on Data Engineering (TCDE). Citation "for breakthroughs in time series data management, as well as contributions to adaptive methodologies for data intensive and machine learning applications."

STEM Education Faculty Award

This award recognizes faculty of all levels at Ohio “supporting the growth of STEM education and research.” The award provides $200,000 in unrestricted funding.

2019
ACM SIGKDD Doctoral Dissertation Award, Honorable Mention

This award recognizes “outstanding work by graduate students in the areas of data science, machine learning, and data mining,” and honors the best doctoral dissertations internationally.

NetApp Faculty Award

This award recognizes faculty of all levels “pursuing cutting‑edge research in data management.” For the first time, it was awarded to a postdoctoral researcher.

Front page of The New York Times covers our research

John's first-authored paper on building a screening solution for devastating diseases using anonymized Web search logs was covered in the front page of The New York Times.

ISSI “Paper of the Year” Award, Finalist

This award recognizes “high quality research in the field of Scientometrics and Informetrics.” Our paper was a finalist, selected among papers published between 2014 and 2016 after nominations by members of the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI).

ACM SIGMOD Research Highlight Award

This award recognizes research projects across premier database conferences (e.g., ACM SIGMOD and VLDB) that “exemplify core database research, address an important problem, represent a definitive milestone in solving the problem, and have the potential of significant impact.”

“Best of ACM SIGMOD”

John's first-authored paper on time-series clustering was selected as one of the (two) best papers of the 2015 ACM SIGMOD International Conference on Management of Data.

Paul Nichoplas Scholarship, Columbia University

This scholarship covers expenses for graduate or undergraduate Greek students.

2014
Alexander S. Onassis Foundation Fellowship

This fellowship recognizes and financially supports Greek graduate students studying abroad with outstanding academic record. (In 2014-2015 cycle, only 3 Ph.D. fellowships were awarded in computer science out of 1000+ submissions across all scientific disciplines.)

Empirikion Foundation Scholarship

This merit‑based scholarship honors Greek scientists across Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Engineering disciplines.

Gerondelis Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes students of Greek ancestry ranked in the top of their class.
